Odd, there is no reply box for this thread, I have to hit quote the eliminate the quote in order to reply. My computer must be having a bad day. I made time to try out a very simple brl, and tried out different bevel types. The outlining came out less than nice, but I got the brl part, so all is good.

That is odd... :puzzled
That looks good. Try to make the colors you use contrast with each other. Often changing the darker color can make a lot of difference in the BRL results.

Wallace the technique you use is much like the same thing that I do to create height maps. I'm wondering if you could get by without doing all the duplicates and merging them to fix edges if you were to simply select all the areas using the Fuzzy Select tool with anti aliasing turned off. Also it sure would be nice if the resulting fill could be rounded off to create more rounded looking brls. When I make rounded stuff I often use a rounded gradient instead of just the Foreground to Background. I've attached a round gradient. I suppose you could change the colors after choosing it.

The lines are only 1 maybe 2 pixels wide. The issue occurs when BRL does it's smoothing. I guess I could turn down the smoothing a bit.

Another practice, tried using slightly different shades of green in each section. Remind me to not use huge pictures to work on, it takes my little old lappie forever to run scripts.

Now, can anyone tell me why this particular doesn't show a reply box for me? I still have to hit quote in order to post. The rest of the site works fine. :hoh

That's a good question 2-ton, of which I have no answer to.

Quick reply was not enabled in this forum. I'm not sure why. I have now enabled it.

By the way, cool tutorial and nice results!

By jove, I think I've got it. The basics, anyway, thanks to the clear tutorial! I also fiddled around with different ways of hiding the areas that brl misses, gaussian blur, painting a lower layer, enlarging a selection and bucket filling in a lower layer. Many ways to skin a cat, as Lyle likes to say. As for turning photos into brl-ready pics, that's for another time.
