Good starting point, i wouldve used a layer mask with a black to white gradient so its more even but you're at a good starting point

I like the simplicity in the approach, I would also have gone straight for layer masks and would have probably upset anyone asking me for directions on doing it easily. :bigthup

I also wrote a (sort of) tutorial for it here which deals more with merging time lapsed images of the same scene.

Thanks for the simple instructions. :yes I'm pretty new to Gimp & this was done in a way that I could very easily understand AND get it to work. I've tried other tutorials, but they were so involved/detailed that for a newbie, it made no sense to me. Again thanks! I think you did a great job.
