Hello all. I'm sharing with you an updated video to an old tutorial of mine from 2009. Using the powerful Flame plugin we'll make some awesome background art. I hop you enjoy. I'll have a written version on my website soon. Here are a few examples. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just to let everyone knows... It works better on black layer without alpha channel >> colors are more vivid, and you see more of the fractal's gradient. If it does not work on a big image, like a 4k (3840x 2160) image for example, change the "zoom" in the "camera" tab just before clicking the "OK" button, it seems by changing this setting even slightly, it "obliges" the plugin to restart all its calculations from the beginning, then it will work and generate the fractal on a 4k image (you will see the progress bar after clicking "OK" going way slower than when the rendering did not work). Below, I did change the zoom slightly before clicking OK, then it works just fine on a 4k image ![]() Attachment: Untitled.jpg [ 1.8 MiB | Viewed 1978 times ] |

These are nice but I think 'fractal art' is inaccurate. They don't appear to have self similarity or recursion. So often now things are being passed-off as something else. Fractal Forums is the place to check-out fractals Fractal Forums needs a login now to see a lot of stuff because of the idiotic 'non fungible token' bubble. Why didn't an adult speak-up about that one? |

Nice results everyone, I like seeing the individuality of your designs. ![]() Tas_mania wrote: These are nice but I think 'fractal art' is inaccurate. Why didn't an adult speak-up about that one? While the actual math flies over my head according to the official documentation written by Scott Draves it is the fractal code with some twists. https://flam3.com/flame_draves.pdf and in one of Scott's original examples there is a lot more repetition https://draves.org/gimp/flame.html All in all it's very fascinating how equations power art. |

Hi David, I'm wrong they are fractals. To me they look like fractal snapshots or fractal stills. That's why you can't see any recursion. Animated 3d fractals have come a long way. fractals here were done with Mandelbulber. |

Nice tut, David; watched this one at work earlier. Haven't played with the Flame Plugin for well over a decade; may try to do so when I get some time. ![]() |

Hi David - I thought I would comment again. I watched the Flame video and did learn a couple of things. You are excellent with Gimp light and color effects. I just uploaded a video that incorporates people into 3d fractals. I haven't posted it here yet. I don't know if you have heard of Stephen Sink from the US midwest. I learned how to keyframe 3d fractals from this video. That video changed my whole outlook on art. I recon you would like doing fractals like that. Rendering is an issue and you pretty much need a dual graphics card at least to do it. MDBB uses OpenCL and the graphics cards not the CPU which makes it easier. Thanks for a great tutorial and post ![]() |
