2-ton wrote: By jove, I think I've got it. The basics, anyway, thanks to the clear tutorial! I also fiddled around with different ways of hiding the areas that brl misses, gaussian blur, painting a lower layer, enlarging a selection and bucket filling in a lower layer. Many ways to skin a cat, as Lyle likes to say. As for turning photos into brl-ready pics, that's for another time. [ Image ] BRL chicken, nice. ![]() |

Just watched your excellent video Wallace; thank you for that. You actually emphasised some points that as yet I have not attended to in my use of BRL, like the bleeding of colour, smoothing and adding selections for consistent shape contours; there is always something to learn! In a number of my previous attempts I have used the line art as an over/underlay to improve the detail visibility. One of the other joys of this script is all the available options, for which it takes some time to understand what will be output - so plenty of surprises in that area. So after watching your video I knocked up a BRL image from a photo of my kangaroo paw flowers; I used the ‘Round2 bevel/outline outer bevel’ option consistently across the selections as the flowers (and stems) are hairy, finger like shapes. I created custom gradients from the photo for the BRL, using the ‘sample gradient from path’ script. I also used the original photo as an overlay to provide a ‘shadow effect’ which is only just visible in the lighter red part of the background. Hope you like it - as I have stated elsewhere you were the one who lead me into BRL and I thank you for that - its great fun. ![]() |

Try to make your FG & BG colors a bit darker. |

gimper66 wrote: molly ,you can see that fg to bg is on as well as the gradient Yes, but you have to do it in both places On the dialogue you have to double click where it says select gradient and scroll where it says fg-bg It will show the default gray but click that anyway. ![]() ![]() |

[ Image ] [ Image ] I think that Molly may be correct. I used your image and the same gradient choosing FG to BG as the gradient to be used and this is what I came up with. ![]() |

gimper66 wrote: Wallace, that's what I do but always the same result [ Image ] I use blue and yellow here but the same result [ Image ] I have however the tutorial followed perfectly That is odd... It look as though you're FG color is being ignored and replaced with white. I don't know why this might be happening. ![]() Have removed/replaced the old version with the latest version of BRL? Other than that... I think this is something that Tux will need to check out. I really don't have an answer to why this is occurring. |

At least it's working for you now. I did contact Tux about this issue, maybe he has something that he can add to figure out why this happened. I don't feel that it was a BRL issue, but maybe more like a Gimp or your OS instead. I can't wait to see your final results when you're done. Thanks for helping out Molly. ![]() |
