Create the coffee cup from scratch using layers, layer modes, advanced path techniques, and some texture images. To make this cup, we are going to build a wireframe using multiple paths. With those paths, we can create selections that allow us to quickly fill in each detail of the cup.

FYI: I have been working hard to make my tutorials the best I can, and recognize that some people don't need a super-detailed tutorial. Instead, they just want to quick overview. To accommodate both, I have uploaded 2 versions of this tutorial, one is 90 minutes long and very detailed, and the other is 6 minutes long and basically goes over the highlights.

Wow! That looks so real. Very nice job on the cup, plus you made a jacket on it so we won't burn our fingers.

I watched the short video and it looks relatively easy (I think). Now to knuckle down and try the tutorial.

Thanks!

Wouldn't it make much more sense to use 3D modelling software?

Us southern Europeans have a rather different definition of a "coffee cup" (as well as a rather different definition of "coffee") :)

The Gimp way is cool until you want to add a clean label, since "Map object" doesn't map to cone.

Well Kevin, it depends on how familiar the user is with 3D modeling :).
