A tutorial to do a basic animation for GIMP beginners.

video removed... It was marked private

1. Once you have 2 layers go to Filter > Animation > Burn-In

2. Fill out the fields picking your glow color if you want one.

3. Hit 'OK' and your animation will be made.

4. Go to Filter > Animation > Playback to view your aimation in GIMP.

5. Close the playback window and click 'Save as', enter the name you want then put there it as .gif in the end of the name and save it.

6. There you go! Done.

That was quick and easy. Nice. I deleted the bottom 5 layers and filled the resulting bottom one with black.

The name of it is Polyspring and it is a commercial (for sale) font. The fancy work letters are accessible in the private area in the Character Map and are a pain to use. My OS is Linux and the two Charmaps I have for that are somewhat difficult to use.

When I started using Gimp at the begining of the year this is one of the scripts I had trouble working out how to use, good tut Jamie and if you want to centre a layer quickly and easily try the allignment tool :alntool

I don't know what I am doing wrong, it worked for me way back when this thread started but now I can't get it to work. I opened a transparent layer, made some text, so that gave me the two layers. I ran the script and I keep getting more errors.

I got errors when I checked Prepare for GIF. It worked fine when I didn't check that option. I also had to delete the bottom layer, but I did that when I made my first example of it in here.

I was wondering about that gif option, it now works but doesn't go like it should. I deleted the colored layer at the bottom and ended up with a two colored animation.

maybe this filter is for Gimp version 2.4 now to reduce the dimension of the Gif file you should use the filter OPTIMIZE(for GIF) is in animation

It should be replace for the animation. When you use combine, it makes the bottom layer be the bg for all the layers. Here is a copy of the layers for the animation I posted up above:
