i want to promote billy kerr's video tutorials again - i really like them. they're slow enough for me to follow easily while working on my own picture and skyping with one of my sisters, and still it's not so slow i get bored and irritated. and he doesn't inflict his "ehm:s" and "eer:s" and "mumblemumbles" on his poor non-native english speaking audience either, he wisely keeps his mouth shut and shows you how it's done instead. that's probably why i finally learned how easy it was to make bokeh effects in gimp through his tutorial when i failed before!

here's the tutorial. bokeh effects are probably nothing new to most of the gimp chat crowd, but i'm guessing there's at least one or two poor souls out there who don't have it figured yet!

I'm glad you enjoyed my tutorial, and my silent movie technique. LOL

I'm "billps" here, but also known as Billy Kerr in my real life.

wow, this is cool...gotta try it.
i created a star shaped brush, but i noticed i had to invert it to make the star white and background black for it to work otherwise i get this square light with hollow star when i use it to focus blur.

trandoductin: looks nice! yep, you need to invert the brush colours. i also vaguely recall (can't use the focus blur script on this steam engine) that if you made, say, a paisley, you had to flip it vertically to get it the right side up in the image.

yeah the video did show the rotating of 180 to get the right side up.

Nice tutorial. But while I"m not a big fan of errs and uhs, I do prefer videos that have voice narration to go along with showing steps on the screen capture videos. It's easier for me to follow along rather than stop and read.
