I was just putting marks with brushes on the screen and then used the kaleidoscope filter and it got fancy.
I was very surprised!

Picture removed...try kaleidoscope filter and see!

gramg: kaleidoscope filters, what would life be without them :)? i think you should slow the animation down a bit though, it will produce a migraine if i look at it the way it is now.

I do that sort of thing when I can't think of anything else to do - make a mess with fancy brushes then run a load of filters on it.

Erisian...I took a look at your gallery...no good words for how amazing the pictures are...just beyond amazing!
This would just be a doodle to you....but that is where I am at, and I am learning something new each day or getting better with what I know. That is the beauty of these types of programs...they are great for all levels of users. And I just love it that people share their talent. Thank you for your comment on my kaleidoscope....I have fun putting them in emails to my family...lol.

N ot an animation but stroking a path combined with brush dynamics can come with some interesting shapes. Much improved since Gimp 2.6

This is using a 'comb' type brush, could not be much simpler.

Looking at the brush dynamics, again the simplest of options , only colour and fade

but then try adjusting some parameters, obviously the fade length, also brush angle, the repeat option and the gradient. Also try a containing selection and also the selection with a large 'feather' value.

As Esper said great fun
