Hi guys,

I recently purchased a time-lapse camera.
I set it up in my garden the other day to try and spot some local visitors.
Here is my first attempt using the output to make a Gimp animation.

I have used 20 frames of the video footage.
I ran each frame through G'mics Black&White->Pencil creating a new layer.
Ran those new pencil layers through G'mics Enhancement->Anisotopic Smoothing
Created a layer mask to exclude the pond area. Applied the mask to the Pencil layers. Then merged them down on to their original coloured layers.

I then scaled them down in size to try and keep the animated files to a small size for posting.

However the animated PNG file was still approx 8Mb.
So I made an AVI video of the animation so I could fit it under the 5Mb file limit.

Hope you enjoy!

Nice, like the mix between pencil and colour.

fluffybunny: really cool effect and excellent work on the masks. getting parrots in your garden is extremely exotic to a swede, the most exotic animal i've ever had in mine was a swedish moose :).

Thanks for those comments everyone, glad you enjoyed viewing it.

I was a little disappointed with the quality and size of the posted AVI. You should see the original 1280x720 animated PNG!

@Anmal - Exotic for some is Common to others eh?
I have caught on Time-Lapse camera some interesting visitors in the last few days including 1.5m Red Bellied Black Snake and a 'laughing' Kookaburra.
PS I'll keep my eyes peeled for wandering moose. However the 'moose' will likely turn out to be a 'mouse' in my part of the planet. Take care. :hehe

Cheers

fluffybunny: hehe, i suppose you don't get much swedish moose in your parts :). personally i'd love to see the kookaburra, i've never seen one on movie, just pictures. wouldn't mind seeing a little of the red bellied black snake either. any chance you'll be making new animations with those?

Hi AnMal,
Will have to wait for a better image of the snake, my camera was facing the afternoon sun, and there is a fair bit of lens flare. I'll try and clean the image up, but no promises ;) As for the Kookaburra, he didn't do much during his time in front of the camera, but I'll make a small AVI for you in the near future...

Today's variations are shorter (10 frames) animations of some green parrots - males & females sharing a bath.
I still had to scale down the images to keep the files < 5 Mb.
The PNG is animated, but I will include a lower quality animated GIF too for Internet Explorer users.

Hope you enjoy.

Fascinating stuff fluffybunny. I like the contrast between colour and Greyscale. Those parrots are beautiful.

fluffybunny: great job again! and again very exotic to a swede - parrots flying around in your garden, that's amazing.
