Can anyone help me with using the GAP video to frames option when i do it I just end up with a single frame...

Jamie if you would try some of the ccbarr tutorials, they are very good and the one with the animated barber pole is a great one to do cuz it is very well explained.
After doing of few of his tutes, you may understand GAP a little better.

jamie don't confuse frames with layers, frames are a sequence of progressively numbered images ,where each frame may that may have 1 or even more layers

GAP doesn't do much for layer based animation but include 2 important plugin

1 split image in frames
if you have a layer based animation (better in xcf but even gif, even if gif has very low quality) you want edit with gap that will convert to frame, best format to save the frames is xcf (that may require a lot of disk space)

2 frames to image
is the opposite will convert a series of frames in a single multi layered image
if the frames have more layer the visible will be used
