Made this animation out of the video I shot back in May.
WARNING! Do not watch this video longer than a few seconds! Your computer monitor is at risk of burning through!

Image

:hehe After converting animation to indexed with Floyd-Steinberg normal color dithering, some artifacts above the flame happened (hate GIF :gaah ). When you watch animation, especially at full-size/full-screen res, it looks as if LCD monitor is starting to melt around candle's flame.
Making this animation was a very tedious work. Don't remember how much time I wasted on it, it was back in May, but felt exhausted when finally finished it.
All done with GIMP.

P.S. Just noticed after uploading here - on the left side of the candle there is a reflection of a second candle. I can see its flame dancing in that reflection. Amazingly, but indexing and color dithering did not destroy this tiny feature. Maybe, after all, GIF isn't THAT bad.

wow that is really cool. It looks so much as if it is burning on the monitor.

I agree about gif's messing stuff up. That's a beautiful effect, K1te. Love it.

I've been playing with the cage tool on a candle flame to see if I could make it look realistic. So far, it's not too good but am going to keep trying.

Thank you, O! I would love to see and ready to wait for your candle! Cage transform tool? I've never thought of CTT's implementation as animation tool...Thanks for the idea, gotta try it too, although I have had no success with this tool so far, only some transformations with text layers.

I've been working on it. I sure wish you could go from the Cage selection to a Path and then back to a Cage selection from Paths. That would make working with it so much easier.

Gave up on the CTT. Drew a flame with the Paths tool and distorted the path for the different layers. Still not happy with it, but it's a start. It needs a lot more layers (this one is 4).

Oh! Missed your post somehow! Pretty good for just 4 frames. It is looking very promising and for pure animation is the best I've seen in 2D realm. The dancing of the flame is very realistic. Keep on trying. Too bad CTT selection can't be transformed to the paths.
Means a lot more manual work.

Some really nice animations, this might help some of you, but a while ago I made a candle picture...

I was struggling with the flame till I found this Inkscape tutorial on making a candle, I was able to replicte the steps in Gimp.

Great looking candle! Why not Inkscape? Thanks for the link, he4rty!
I have to try it too, in Inkscape it is also possible to make animations.
