The animated GIF file is 2.5M in size, so it may take a little time to load. Having the text justified would have given the text that nice page look you see in the Star Wars Title Scroll at the beginning of the films.

Anyhow, this was done with Gimp and GAP and applying Map Object on many frames where the text layer is treated as a Plane Object. While the text appears to be moving further away from the viewer, actually, the first part of the animation is just the tilted plane text being raised and then at some point I begin changing the Z-depth value of the plane to truly make it look like it is moving away (while still rising on the screen). Finally, the text is faded into the background.

Oh, and if you wonder about the meaning of the text. Well, only the Shadow knows. ;)

Thank you for taking the time to check this out.

:)

Nice trick with moving the text in y-direction first, otherwise I suspect it would be difficult to have it move gracefully onto the screen from a suitable z-distance. The result looks very Star-War-y indeed. :)

I did this once using the transformation option under Move Object's "Perspective" tab. The end result was nice but it was somewhat difficult to set the control points (if the top two corners were too close, things would go completely bonkers). Your Map Object approach appears to be much saner.
