Hello there,
A new filter has been added to the G'MIC plug-in for GIMP, named
Layers / Blend [seamless].
It implements a new blending mode that helps in merging an object into a background image, without spending too much time in segmenting the object precisely.
Two examples are better than words :

This filter implements the algorithm presented in the paper "Poisson Image Editing" by Perez-etal, available at :
http://bybjhso.xeds.eu/clone/poisson.pdfIt is still a bit experimental and has some bugs remaining, but it is already fun to play with.
If you have some nice experiments to post, please proceed !

Cheers,
David.

Nice one indeed alc59 !

Another try (a bit extreme, as the two images I've used have really nothing in common !).
Not realistic, but not so bad, for a 2 minute work!

This filter is awesome. On this one, I put the creature right over the shark. No need to remove the shark first from the photo:

Warrior, when you did the gmic filter, open a layer, then open a transparent layer, did you have to merge the two down before running the filter? If not, which layer did you run the filter on. When I did it, they were still in two separate layers after I ran the filter.

I had my "cut out" layer, above the main layer, if that makes sense. The selected layer was the cut out layer. I think I set the input mode to "all", ran it, and it was one layer when finished.
