Help on G'MIC install on Mac OS

Tue Jul 09, 2019 6:03 am

Hi guys,

Starting on GIMP and downloaded G'MIC for the first time, looked all over the place but can't find any explanation of what to do with the files once downloaded (there's an old one from itstillworks . com - can't link the URL I'm new here - but I checked and the plug-in folder doesn't exist on my computer (cf. screenprint), so I guess the process has changed with the latter version).

Did anyone successfully install G'MIC on Mac OS and could help me with that?

That would be super cool ! :tyspin

Hi. If you are using Mojave, maybe this will help.

Hi Erisian,
Thanks for your reply,
Saw that one too but the answer is pretty mysterious to me, and I'm using High Sierra
I think I'll just desinstall everything and re-install a build like Partha, seems simplier !

Sorry being mysterious! Maybe this helps

Use the package: https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-pl ... 10-osx.tgz
Unpack it and move folder GMIC and exe gmic_gimp_qt (hence the content of the tgz) to ~/Library/Application\ Support/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins/

If you don't know how to reach that normally hidden folder Library in your user account (~): open a Finder Window, do shift+cmd+G and type ~/Library!
Start Gimp!

This is literally the ONLY statement I could find after an hour of searching on how to install G'MIC on Mojave OS. You provided 3 sentences and it works perfectly. I guess need to do a YT video and give you full credit for the info because this was almost impossible to find!! It would be nice if this tiny bit of information was on the G'MIC download link for macOS. It would save people hours of frustration :)

BTW, Thank you for the helpful info!!

Is G'MIC currently not working on Catalina?
When I try to install it for GIMP 2.10 I get this error
“libX11.6.dylib” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

Hmm, I don't have installed catalina up to now. Still the message looks for me as gatekeeper message. Possibly try to start some X-window programs like xterm. Or start XQuartz with left click open and allow access (opening), assuming an installed X-window. I don't know the extended security features of catalina. Possibly reinstall XQuartz!

At least the gmic plugin is using X-window for certain functions and needs the library during opening!
