No problem for this filter with samj Gimp 2.10.11 and samj Gimp2.10.8 but with samj Gimp 2.10.12 I get this error message:

This is the problem with portable versions, Windows or Linux, you get what you are given.

However in this case, not much you can do. The gmic_gimp_qt in the samj's Gimp 2.10.12 is version 2.6.6 and at least 3 weeks old ;) As of yesterday gmic_gimp is up to 2.70 and the photocomix wild cartoonizer still gives that error. Older versions - gmic_gimp_qt 2.5.7 are ok but since then the gmic syntax has changed.

What you should do is report the bug to David Tschumperlé and the best place is https://discuss.pixls.us/t/release-of-g ... /12240/210

However as a sort of a fix:

Download and unzip the attached update266.gmic file.
Rename the existing file in the samj ...\GMIC_Filters\gmic folder as a backup
Copy the new update266.gmic file to there. example.

Should be working but whatever you do do not update the filters or you might get the original back.

Thanks rich2005 for reporting this error. :)

1) Thank you for this method but is not it embarrassing to not be able to update for other filters?

2) I already have an update 2.6.6 file:

Why put the same?

3) If I put the installable version on C, will I be able to continue using old portable versions that are on D?

It is worth remembering that gmic constantly evolves. samj 2.10.11 used an older gmic_gimp 2.5.7 while samj 2.10.12 uses 2.6.6

Between those versions there was a change in the way gmic interprets the commands, which is why wild cartooniser gives that error. It was never updated.

All those 'testing' filters are in a big script file updatexxx.gmic which matches the gmic version. Normally when you install gmic_gimp it has 312 filters and updates to 520. It downloads all of the testing section.

I am no expert in gmic syntax but I guessed a small change to line 61915 was required.
from -unsharp $3,$4,0[1] to -unsharp[1] $3,$4,0

Which is why you need to replace it with the zipped version

The samj gmic_gimp_qt is a bit strange. I do not know if it is possible to upgrade gmic_gimp to a newer version. Maybe one of the regular users can give advice.

If I put the installable version on C, will I be able to continue using old portable versions that are on D?

Yes, I have that setup on my Win10 (VM)
