Post subject:  G'MIC Questions

I have installed the latest Gimp 2.10 on Ubuntu 18.04 and use it with the G'MIC plug-in. The G'MIC filters all work pretty well of course except for the one I most want to use, the watercolor filter. My questions are is this filter used much - it does not seem to have been updated in a long time. Does anyone else use this successfully with these versions, is it better with Windows? Sometimes it gives great results but other times it produces odd garbage, I think some pointers are screwed up. It was flaky with Gimp 2.8 also. Any hints or links to where the source code for this particular filter might be, the filters don't seem to be with the G'MIC distro?
Thanks,
"Snarky Cat"

Definitely errors with G'mic water colors, you might want to post a bug report.

Alternatively you can use Filters > Artistic > Waterpixels and maybe also cartoon filter?

It is an old-ish filter but as with everything, garbage-in -> garbage out, so you probably need to do some pre-processing before diving into gmic. I noticed shadows in the original image come through as painted areas and look strange.

But it also has a mountain of variables. I would just try and see. Get a good result and keep it, poor result throw away ;)

This in my (k)ubuntu 18.04

Not over quick, that took about a minute to render.
