I'm not sure what went wrong. I'm running what I think is the newest GIMP appimage, with the G'MIC appimage available on G'MIC's website
as an "additional resource" in downloads. Things were working fine before I had to restore my install of Linux Mint 18.3 after two disastrous
attempts at upgrading to 19 and 20.

I tried searching for any residual config information that might be messing things up... Now I think I might just be running the wrong versions of the AppImage files? Does anyone know if there's a way to confirm this?
Once again, it's the hundreds of Color Presets and the Simulate Film addons that are broken, though they appear in the list of usable filters.

Further, the G'MIC download link as shown below 404's, which also makes me think there's some config file confusion somewhere...

The problem with the Gimp 2.10 appimage version of g'mic is age. It is 2.9.2 from 3 July 20, not that old, but there were a lot of internal gmic code changes towards the end of gmic 2.9.2 which broke many updated filters. (or rather the updated filters are not compatible with the old code)

This using my 'buntu 18.04 and Gimp 2.10.22 appimage-with-plugins

The appimage is a wonderful mix of library versions to make it work but it is a bit picky about gmic. What you can try is this latest version (2.9.3) of gimp_gmic_qt which I compile using older QT libraries

https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code ... 9Jbj6Y6rwV

Unzip and put in the Gimp appimage plugins folder ~/.config/GIMP-AppImage/2.10/plug-ins/ This will supercede the older version.

Refresh to get 543 filters. Looks like this:

Hi again Rich, thank you so much for your fast reply.
What I did:
- Downloaded your link and installed in /home/user/.config/GIMP-AppImage/2.10/plug-ins
- Made sure it was executable.
- Refreshed, good news is the color presets/film sim filters appear on the list... but generate a new error when used.
- Re-downloaded from scratch the filter bundle from About page after filters failed with a different message. Refreshed, restarted GIMP 2.10.
- Jic moved old versions of gmic to a backup directory.
Refreshed, restarted GIMP 2.10.

Ed.: It now occurs to me I'm using GIMP_AppImage-git-2.10.23-20201029-withplugins-x86_64, different from yours. Would this make a difference?

Here is the new error:
Unreadable network file...

Seem to recall this happening before. Someone should tell David.

At the moment, if you go to g'mic -> About -> Download External -> Data You get a zip file but it is text (your 404)

...
<title>404 Not Found</title>
<h1>Not Found</h1>
<p>The requested URL was not found on this server.</p>
</body></html>

Go here: https://github.com/dtschump/gmic/blob/m ... _cluts.gmz and download the .gmz file (3.09 MB)
Put gmic_cluts.gmz in your gmic profile ~/.config/gmic

There are filters that still do not work, some in the 'testing' section that have been abandoned by their authors.

I never would have figured this out in a million years.
