Just replaced your other one with this one; not sure the difference, but in both, Overlay setting doesn't work. Still, I like your preset better then David's original PC. New one still works. Just remember though, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. lol

:)

There is also another difference from the first version , gaussian blur and not only that added by David in the update
the effect of the added blur should be no much intense i wanted slightly soften not a too visible blur,

Overelay was broken by a a sort of automatism
compose hardlight,softlight, overlight... :mrgreen:

cool i like mostly the last

Maybe duplicate the layer with the white lines (if is a separate layer ) blur a bit (between 2 and 4px)
and set on top on lighten only mode may add some depth...not sure just a idea passing by

Hey Willy; G'MIC is a lot like understanding DOS commands. If you started out with DOS in it's earliest days, navigating the various DOS commands such as copy, move, delete, deltree, etc. becomes second hat, but if you are late to the game (only now you decided to buy a computer and it comes with Win7), then you have no base in understanding and the learning curve becomes steeper (still rewarding though). I will give you a hint on this one. There is a file called .gmic (the dot in front of gmic is correct). It is located (in Win7 that is; same for Vista. Just not sure where in XP since I no longer run GIMP in XP) under C:\users\{user account}\AppData\Roaming. I usually use Wordpad to edit this file and then copy the code (in this case, PC's hacked code) inside it and save the result. Below's exactly the contents that I have in this file. :)

#######################################################
#@gimp Stained Glass 2 : gimp_stained_glass2a, gimp_stained_glass2a_preview(0)
#@gimp : Edges = float(20,0,100)
#@gimp : Shading = float(0.1,0,0.5)
#@gimp : Thin separators = bool(1)
#@gimp : Equalize = bool(1)
#@gimp : sep = separator()
#@gimp : Merge = choice( "Color Burn ","Grain Merge","Hard Light","Soft Light","Overlay","Multiply","Skip Merging")
#@gimp : Opacity = float(1,0,1)
#@gimp : sep = separator(), Preview type = choice("Full","Forward horizontal","Forward vertical","Backward horizontal","Backward vertical")
#@gimp : sep = separator(), note = note("<small>Author : <i>David Tschumperl&#233;</i>. Latest update : <i>2011/03/18</i>.</small>")
gimp_stained_glass2a :
-repeat @# -l[$>] -split_opacity -l[0]
-blur 0.1 -stained_glass $1,$2,$3
-n 0,255
-if $4 -equalize[-1] 256 -endif
-if {$5==0} --blur 0.9 -gimp_compose_colorburn $6
-elif {$5==1} --blur 0.9 -gimp_compose_grainmerge $6
-elif {$5==2} --blur 0.9 -gimp_compose_hardlight $6
-elif {$5==3} --blur 0.9 -gimp_compose_softlight $6
-elif {$5==4} --blur 0.9 -gimp_compose_overlay $6
-elif {$5==5} --blur 0.9 -gimp_compose_multiply $6
-elif {$5==6} -gimp_do_nothing -endif
-blur 0.4
-endl -append c -endl -done

gimp_stained_glass2a_preview :
-gimp_split_preview "-gimp_stained_glass2a ${1--2}",$-1
###################################################

@Lyle: .gmic file has to be created. That is covered on the tutorial. Even .gmic_faves has to be created, IF you have not saved any presets. But for faves, you can create the .gmic_faves file simply by saving a preset in G'MIC. Not the same with the .gmic file.

@Willy: It's hard to answer a question when you don't have the question.

If you scroll back a page or two on this thread, you'll see I summarized the way you add filters to G'MIC, even provided the link to that page and suggested you read. I even explained that even though the suggestions were for "Linux" they also work for Windows, its ONLY the location on your hard drive that matters.

Like PC says, unless you help us understand what it is you don't understand, how are we going to know what else to suggest?

Okay Lyle, I am in that folder, and there is nothing called .gmic
.gmic_faves
.gmic_def.1483
.gmic_def.1482

that is all there is, and I turned on hidden files

Okay, what format do I create this file with... it is a bit more confusing for me using Vista... Creating something for me I have the option for a bunch of stuff and then a Notepad file, which would be my guess, but I created one and called it .gmic, then pasted in PC's code, and then restarted GIMP, and refreshed G'MIC and then didn't see anything different.
