I can't get it to show up in Gimp 2.8.14.

These are the instructions I was trying.

"G'MIC for Mac OS X

Download G'MIC for Macs from the developer's website, click the G'MIC filename in the downloads bar to open its contents, select “gmic_gimp” and press “Ctrl-C” to copy the file to your clipboard. The G'MIC archive contains one folder, a README document and two other files.

Launch Finder, click “Go,” hold down the “Option” key and then click “Library.” Library is a system folder used to hold your application and OS X personal preferences.

Click “Application Support,” select "GIMP," choose the GIMP version number folder and then click “plug-ins.” For example, if you're using GIMP 2.8, the full path to the plug-ins folder should resemble this path:

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application\ Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins

The "2.8" in this path is the version number for GIMP.

Press “Ctrl-V” to paste the G'MIC plugin to the folder. G'MIC will be available for use the next time you run GIMP."

Hey Axel why are you posting about filters in my thread?

I assume you have Gimp from GimponOSX for Yosemite downloaded. And you have downloaded the dmg File from http://karo03.bplaced.de/gmic/git/Macgm ... semite.dmg. And you have selected in it the folder for 10.10 and the fitting plugin (either with X or without). With X necessitates installation of XQuartz on your machine! and you have copied it as described...
~ $ ls -l ~/Library/Application\ Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins/gmic_gimp
-rwxr-xr-x@ 1 xxxx _xxxx 8551056 9 Jul 20:32 /Users/xxxx/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins/gmic_gimp
And last but not least, you should verify in the preferences of Gimp->Folder->plugins contains the above folder on first place.

If all that is done you should have an open image in Gimp, otherwise the Filter GMIC is greyed out!

Yes, I have done all that but GMIC doesn´t show up under "Filters".

how about going to Partha's place and downloading his Gimp for OS X. It come with Gmic and some other plug ins natively in it.

Hmm, that makes it difficult! My way is than to start Gimp from Terminal:

Start Terminal and type

/Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/MacOS/Gimp

and look into the messages printed. Possibly there is one concerning gmic_gimp!

And if there is none and GMIC is not in the filter list I think you should control the points again I gave in my previous post!

By the way, using Partha's build is a good idea, still mixing Gimp builds can lead to other difficulties, especially about the plugin location.

This was the only solution for me to get a running G´MIC plugin in GIMP until now.
But there was a wrong path in the old plugin (1.6.0.) and so I could not load filters.
So I did like described here. Tried all plugins in all variants.

It seems on Partha´s place is a new version of GIMP for Mac with G´MIC 1.6.3. now.
Will try it

Very good, still gmic_gimp plugin actually is 1.6.5.0 or pre 1.6.5.1, with lots and severe changes! However, I would be interested what your problem was.

Thanks for the output. You must have a different Gimp! In the version I expect there should be at least a duplicated gmic_gimp plugin mentioned! Since in the app one old is delivered and in the user folder you should copy a newer one!

Okay, MacGIMP 2.8.14 from partha.com is running now (after reboot, first it caused crashes...)
and: I have a functional G´MIC plugin with it which is able to access an download filters!

The app needs nothing more than dropping into the applications folder.

This problem has four results so far:

It is true that the described way of installation doesn´t work on MacOS X.

It is not a problem of MacOS or different installation methods (tried all possible combinations 4 days..)

G´MIC plugins older than 1.6.3. obviously have a obsolete download path for filters (also see here).

Actually the only way to get a running G´MIC plugin in GIMP on Mac is to
download the GIMP 2.8.14 package from partha´s place.
