Hello there,
Again, I'm very happy to announce the release of a new version of G'MIC (numbered 1.6.9).
A lot of cool stuffs have been added to the G'MIC core engine (particularly the math parser), to make more cool and cool filters in the future :coolguy

Changelog and links : https://discuss.pixls.us/t/release-of-gmic-1-6-9

There have been a last minute bug I've been able to fix, sorry about that if you downloaded the pre-release yesterday.
All should be fixed right now.

What should I do with all the .dll files that came with the Win 64 bit G'MIC download zip?
Should I also place these .dll files into my plugins folder?
Edit:
Never mind, I used the Windows 64bit G'MIC installer instead.

Ok, Mac version is built too (under Stable Release)!

Changes:
- Only one version anymore
- plugin under gimp/gmic_gimp needs installed X11 (XQuartz)
- additional cli (command line interface) version linked against Gimp
(from GIMPonOSX) under gimp/gmic.
To use this gmic cli version no MacPorts are necessary, still Gimp has
to be started to prepare the necessary link to the bundle libraries.

At what point is it politically OK to start converting existing filters/commands to use the new features (making them 1.6.9 only)?

Souphead.

Hello Souphead,

Regarding the fact it's probably easier for the user to upgrade the binaries than the contributor to write a new piece of code, I'd strongly suggest contributors to make their life easier as soon as possible with the new features !
There is a command '-gimp_check_version' we can add at the beginning of a filter code to display a warning message about the version number requirement.

If the presets are not compatible with older versions, as I understand them, these presets won't even show up in the list for the old versions Souphead. You should be free to use the latest code as you see fit to take advantage of the latest features. :)

That's not true Lyle.
Filters definition are all the same for all G'MIC 1.6.+.
If one creates a new filter only for 1.6.9, it will appear for users of 1.6.7 or 1.6.8 too.

It's OK to create new filters for 1.6.9, telling the user to upgrade to be able to run the filter.
It's not so OK to change an existing working filter to make it run only with 1.6.9.

Norseman, which system do you run on?
If Windows (32 or 64) you have the installer available. I don't know about the Others.

you should download the .exe, not the .zip
once downloaded, just run it, it installs itself properly
