Is it possible to have a (non-interactive) command in gimp-gmic which returns a variable containing the running version of gmic (in plain test like for instance "1.7.9")?
This would allow a script writer to query the running version and use the appropriate syntax for the subsequent call(s) to gmic filter(s), giving that this may change (has changed) between versions?

This request has no more sense (read the dialog on the release of 1.7.9), because there will be no chance to access previous release(s) of a gimp_command filter which has been changed.
Hence I close the topic.
