I did a little exploring in G'MIC.

Tom Keil's Filters > Metallic look

This kettle started out as stainless steel and I applied the copper and bronze to them. This animation shows the original stainless steel plus the copper and bronze results. It does a nice job. :hehe

yeah Tom is doing great filters

Metallic Look to me is more close to a metallic tint, but anyway work very well if the subject is adapt and a caffe boiler is quite adapt

I used the bevel script first, then the metallic on the selected letters. I really like the script. I'm thinking of a dozen different ways in which I can use it. Groovy kudos to Tom and dd!

I agree with Mahvin! I am trying to get the same effect and I am getting close, but just not nearly as nice!

Trying to copy nixnine's style.

I beveled and used Multiply layer mode for the bevel layer. It comes out dark but the Metallic filter shines it up.

I've attached my zipped xcf file. The paths for every other letter are in the file so it's quick to select whichever letters you want for the metallic filter. It's something to play around with for different settings, etc.

My settings in the metallic filter: Strength: 0.51, Smoothness: 0.37.

Good idea, PhotoComix.

Here are my results. The top one is Fencepost's script which is great. The bottom one I darkened the default text color before taking over to the metallic filter - I used the bronze color there.

I'm always interested in metallic look effects, it seems to me there are so few that really work. I'll give this a serious going over later. I have to leave to the optometrist as soon as I post this because I'm an idiot and lost my glasses in the yard.
