Hello all,

I like the search feature of G'mic quite a lot, but it no longer works.
I remember when starting about>search it listed all available filters and I could then perform a search. Some time ago it started to be empty ... no search possible any more. Version number of G'mic is 1.7.9. GIMP is 2.8.22 on Linux Mint MATE
Is it a common problem or just one with my installation?

In linux the gmic configuration/data files are kept in ~/.config/gmic

In there is a file gimp_filters which if you updated will look like this
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>404 Not Found</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Not Found</h1>
<p>The requested URL /gimp_filters.txt was not found on this server.</p>
</body></html>

So that file no longer exists.

You can get "a version" dated 2015 which will give some search facility although some might be missing/wrong place.

https://github.com/jpfleury/gmic-filter ... ilters.txt

copy that as gimp_filters (no .txt) to ~/.config/gmic and a search in gmic 1.7.9 looks like this

As a note, both gmic 1.7.9 and gmic 2.0 can co-exist in Gimp.
Keep your existing plugin gmic_gimp in your plug-ins folder ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins
Worth trying the QT version of gmic, so put gmic_gimp_qt in the plugins folder as well.

Both appear bottom of the filters menu. A search with version 2 looks like this:

Search function works fine here in G'mic v 2.0 running Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.1. I don't have v 1.79 to test.

Just fired up my (obsolete) PClinuxOS installation and I have the gmic 1.7.9 gimp_filters file from November 2016 just before the last gmic 1.7.9 was issued. Much more recent than the previous reference.

Get it from https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code ... ei2Vqdt6iV

Same as before it goes in ~/.config/gmic

Still advise updating to gmic 2.0 which has its own help.

Yes, sorry, I've accidentally deleted the file 'gimp_filters.txt' which was used by the filter search engine in version 1.7.9.
I'd suggest trying to update your G'MIC plug-in to the newest pre-release version (2.0.0_pre), where you'll have a really better filter search engine included.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions. Looks I should really try to update to 2.0. I'll try that asap.
