OS: Windows Enterprise 64 bit
GIMP ver: 2.8

Okay, I know that forums hate when a person does not read through the forums to see if there has already been a post on the exact subject, so I have made sure to read. I have tried all of the solutions and all have failed. I am trying to get G'MIC installed and have only had miserable failure. (1) I downloaded the installer for Windows 7 64 bit, and ran it. The extra option does not appear under filters. I have GIMP 2.8. I then read that installers don't always work well, so I tried the ZIP file. I then moved it into the plug-ins folder under gimp 2.8 but to no avail. I have BitDefender, and have read that anti-malware software may block GIMP plug ins. I added gimp EXE to my whitelist but to no avail. I then went into preferences/folders (or whatever) in GIMP to add the plugins subfolder, but to no avail. I can not understand what I am doing wrong, for a process that is supposed to be so 100% straightforward!

Did you unzip the zip folder before placing it in your user gimp and link it in preferences?

Yes, I unzipped it. I also followed a few youtube examples to the letter and frame by frame of the given example video, but to no avail.

Do these 3 snapshots and place them here:
1-your (user) gimp-folder content
2-your unzipped gimp-gmic folder content
3-your gimp edit/preferences/folder/plug-ins list
Someone of us can double-check them

I have the same problem with win10 and gmic 2.02. I have tried everything - using installer, using zip file, put the gmic files in different locations - but nothing works. Hoping that the installation of gmic can be smoother and working .

Is this one the file you downloaded, unzipped, placed in your .gimp folder, linked to in gimp preferences?

There have been recently changes concerning the default installation path, to avoid .dll conflicts,
so you may have to do one-extra step.
Please read this notice for more details: https://discuss.pixls.us/t/using-the-wi ... -3-of-gmic

Works fine for me in Windows 10 64 bit.
Pay no attention to my G'MIC menu location in the image window. Just where i like the link to be in my menus.
Image

1) Download the zip
2) Create a folder named GMIC Qt in your plug-ins folder.
3) Unzip the file you downloaded to that new folder "GMIC Qt".
Make sure there is NO other directory under this folder you created. For example it SHOULD NOT look like this
C:/User/UserName/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/GMIC Qt>another directory>files with executable
It should look like this
C:/User/UserName/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/GMIC Qt>files with executable
4) Open GIMP and point GIMP to the folder "GMIC Qt"
Edit>Preferences>Folders>Plug-ins>GMIC Qt - CLICK OK in the preference dialog window.

Image

5) Restart GIMP.
The filter should be under Filters>G'MIC Qt

Are you seeing any errors on GIMP start at all?

You added gimp.exe to your white list but what about these? (depending on which version of G'Mic you are using.)

gmic_gimp_qt.exe
gmic_gimp_qt_win64.exe
gmic_gimp_gtk_win64.exe
gmic_gimp_win64.exe
gmic_gimp_gtk.exe

I had a subdirectory under GMIC and when I uninstalled it I now got 2.0.3 Pre!
But only with 377 filters.
When I have the Swedish version of windows I use the Swedish caracters Å,Ä and ö and when I try to update
GMIC it can not handle these caracters i my user account.
So first is it possible to adjust in the future so the update can be done in a normal way????? (handling å,ä,ö in directory and file name)
Second - can I manually download the update file so I am able to have all filters.
Where to find the update file?? name??
Where to put the update file??

Goran

That is interesting, that looks like a bug. I'll see what we can do !
That is said, I'm not sure putting the update file in your folder will then solve this issue, if the folder
cannot be recognized by G'MIC. This is something you add to try :p
The latest update file is here : http://gmic.eu/update203.gmic
and should be placed in folder %APPDATA%/gmic/

I have manually downloaded update 2.0.3 and installed it both in
- Appdata\gmic and
- appdata\roaming\gmic

but when I uncheck internet and click update I will have the message that filters are updated but I still have 377 filters.

To Ronounouors:

When I try to update from internet I will have the error that it is not possible to create the file and all the path are shown in the error message. Where I have the Swedish caracters å, ä, ö I instead have question marks!

I've reported this bug to Sébastien (the developer of the G'MIC-Qt interface), and he has apparently found a possible cause of the bug. He'll try to fix this ASAP, and if all go well, it should be fixed in the upcoming version 2.0.3 of the plug-in.
I don't have a workaround right now, I'm sorry.

I've just tried to compile the plug-in with a 'possible' fix
(we cannot test here since we don't have Windows).

Could you try one of this installer located here: http://gmic.eu/files/prerelease_windows/

Not sure this will fix the issue but there is at least a chance :)
Thanks for your tests and feedback !

I installed the "possible fix" you made, and now it works!!!!!
I have 487 filters.
So the problem was my Swedish characters.
It is perfect if it works in the futere.
THANKS a lot for your help.

A question to Ronounours as follows:

As I told you earlier I now got my 467 filters but -
- I have now lots of problem with several standard funktions in Gimp such as
- I can not start unsharp mask
- I can not export a JPG file
......

and I will have "can not find procedure start adress in ........."
different start adresses and different files for different functions.
Have you change something pointing to another place.
I reinstalled 2.8.22 but still the same

did you install the plug-in and all its .dll in the GIMP plug-in folder ?
If so, that is not what has to be done, sorry. Please read : https://discuss.pixls.us/t/using-the-wi ... -gmic/4825

The plug-in should be installed somewhere else (with all its dll), then go to GIMP / preferences / and set plug-in path to this new folder.
