well enough alone.

Deleted GMIC because i hadn't updated for a while. (Since the first qt vs came out).
Downloaded the latest stable version from the eu site and it only partly downloaded !
I downloaded it again and it did quite quickly. Installed it and then went to open gimp.
While querying new plugins it has the error message libgomp- 1.dll. I press ok and it continues to open, while Starting extensions I get another error message libpcre - 1.dll, I press ok and gimp opens but no script-fu .
When I try to open GMIC I get the error message libgomp_1.dll again and it doesn't open.
Oh I restarted my computer after I first tried closing and opening gimp too.
Is there something I haven't done?
BTW I do still have the script-fu application in my gimp folders (hasn't been moved)

I d/l the installer for Windows 32bit - should I just try again or

I think it would be best,
to do a complete fresh install and leave nothing behind of any previous GIMP installation.

Was the G'MIC plug-in for GIMP (2.8+) not Gimp Wallace. I deleted it/uninstalled from the programs list. Where else is it usually?
My OS is Windows 10 Home 32 bit

The newer versions of G'Mic have a different path. See where it installed it to and add that path to your folders list. I had that same problem.

I had to add the path C:\users\photomaster\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\gmic_gimp_qt
to my plug-ins folder in Gimp found at:

Edit>Preferences>Folders>Plug-ins
I hope this helps.

Still getting the same errors at the same times :(
Have put the path in - Thanks PM but GMIC still will not open :( Apparently the plugin has crashed

I don't really need it I guess. Gimp is opening although with errors and no script-fu but I don't think I need that, or I hope not.

OK I am going to try and install gmic again.
I have uninstalled it in the programs list.
Should I also delete these files in my plugins folder -
(*) Qt Widgets.dll
(*) Qt Gui.dll
(*) Qt5 Network.dll
(*) Qt Core.dll
(*) Also looks like a program - gmic _ gimp - qt
There are lots of other files same date and time but these look to be Qt specific. Lot of libraries though do I need to get rid of them?
Have also noticed a folder (Platforms) same date but later time

I don't know much about G'Mic,
but I wouldn't delete any of those files.

Do the re-installation and see how it goes.
Hopefully someone who knows more about the G'Mic installation will respond.

Resinstalled and still no joy. :( :cry
Same error messages
While gimp was installing and loading 'new' plugin qtgmic sys error came up - The code execution cannot proceed because libgomp-1.dll was not found.
Reinstalling may fix the problem - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :hoh
For script-fu extension after that - error message libprce-1.dll not found.

Sallyanne, try the following:
- rename your (user) .gimp-2.8 folder something like .gimp-2.8-bak
- restart gimp
- it will create a new clean .gimp-2.8 folder
- download the zip version of the last gmic package, it should look as gmic_gimp_qt_win64.zip
(assuming you are running a 64bits OS)
- unzip it, you likely get a folder gmic_gimp_qt_win64
- extract from inside it the only folder you need, which shows the version, something like gmic-gimp-qt-2.1.6_pre-win64 (this is what I get this morning), move (add) this folder into your newly created .gimp-2.8 folder
- go in gimp/edit/preference and add a link to gmic-gimp-qt-2.1.6_pre-win64 folder
- close and restart gimp
- you should see under the plugin the G'MIC Qt (2.1.6) greyed out
- open any image and now you should see G'MIC Qt (2.1.6) active (i.e. not greyed out)
- click on it and G'MIC should show up, choose any filter you want just to test, and apply it

Good luck!

Not seen this one before and I have made a new folder before.

Oh, gimp did start up.
By the way, I have a 32bit OS, so I will do what you have said only go for 32 bit not 64.
I thought the 2.1.6 was a pre version and the 2.1.5 was the latest stable one

Yes, read "32" instead of "64" in my post and it should work.

Thank you dinasset for giving me instruction. Looks like I am going to have to restore to get back the one I had.
I still do not have the lib.gomp.dll and I am not even getting a greyed out gmic. Still no script-fu either which means a lot of things in filters etc don't show up.

uhm, if you follow exactly what I said you should see gmic (but obviously no added scripts and other plug-ins, these will be restored afterwards). If you do not see it, you made something different from my steps.

I downloaded the 2.1.5 zipped version. When I unzipped said the exe was version 0.0.0.0
The folder was gmic qt 32 bit
I put the exe in the plugins folder in my personal folder
I also added the plugins folder to preferences. I browsed to the gmic - pointed to it but it was greyed out in the preference dialogue so only the plugins folder is in there.

EDIT:_ ok, I didn't put a single folder in the plugins folder. Only folder inside was 'platforms'
So I just tried to put the whole folder in (the gmic_gimp_qt_32 folder). Still nothing. Oh I tried to point to that folder too from preferences but it won't allow - everything was greyed out.

What am I doing wrong?

My recommendation, since I updated yesterday and had to do this myself, I had to go to the Windows control panel "programs and features" and uninstall G'Mic here. Then when I installed the new version it actually did the install. What seems weird to me is the missing Script-fu. Something is blocking Script-fu which could very well be blocking everything that is normally loaded after it, such as G'Mic.

Summary (some questions are pure academy, because your already said it to me, but maybe the sequence was not complete)
1. did you rename your .gimp-2.8 folder as .gimp-2.8-backup ?
2. did you restart gimp and checked you start a clean gimp with a newly created .gimp-2.8 ?
if so, you do not need -for now- to remove anything from gimp (it's clean)
now about gmic
3. did you download the zip pointed to by snapshot 1 ?
4. did you unzip it ?
5. did you find a folder called gmic_gimp_qt_win32 ?
6. did you move the above folder (complete) into your newly created .gimp-2.8 folder ?
7. did you add a link to it in Gimp/Edit/Preferences/Folders/Plug-Ins ?
8. did you close and restart Gimp ?
if so, at this point you should see G'MIC-Qt (greyed out) in the Filters
now open a picture
go again to Gimp/Filters where now you see the G'MIC-Qt active (not greyed out)
choose a filetr and try to apply it

Tried one more time. Went to uninstall the gmic I installed yesterday and saw it was a 2.1.6 and not a 2.1.5 so... downloaded the 2.1.6 zip archive today. Did 1 - 8 correctly this time. GMIC finally shows. Scripts are still not showing though and i have no idea why. Oh I am not getting error messages anymore. Only thing I haven't done is shut down and turn on again. If they show up after I do I will mention it here.

Thank you for your patience

I have script-fu in the filters menu but not on the top menu bar. Have also seemed to have lost all my plugins etc.
Since I have made a 'clean' gimp do you think if I copy the scripts to the new script folder and plugins to the new folder it will make a difference there? nothing seems to have stayed - (brushes, gradients, patterns, etc.)

That's what happens,
when creating a new GIMP User Profile Folder.
You can move you scripts,
plugins, brushes and any other GIMP resource,
from the old profile back to the new one.
Just be sure,
that you don't move files that are not resources,
such as dll files and the like.
If it's not a brush, pattern, gradient, script etc.
Do not move it back to the new profile.
Only move GIMP resources.
