The situation is with Ubuntu 20.04
The 'snap' version is Gimp 2.10.18 and does not support QT that is why gimp_gmic_qt does not work
The 'flatpak' version also Gimp 2.10.18 and has the same problem.
edit: This is true for any snap or flatpak Gimp These are self-contained 'sandboxed' applications
You can install a regular Gimp 2.10.18 (sudo apt install gimp) That does support QT and the gmic plugin does work. Unfortunately this version does not have python support so none of the usual python plugins work.
There is an 'appimage' here:
https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-appimage/releases/ that actually comes with gmic pre-installed. (get a with-plugins version) and generally everything works.
