First just a check. You have the correct version for 'buntu 20.04 and your ubuntu is 64 bit (unlikely to be 32 bit)
https://gmic.eu/files/linux/gmic_3.3.1_ ... _amd64.zip
..and you have unzipped and put the gimp_gmic_qt folder in ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins/

Then my best guess, you do not have qt5 installed. If you run Gimp from a terminal look for error messages about QT_5

Try in a terminal

sudo apt install libqt5core*  libqt5widgets5*

Which should pull in the required files and dependencies. This my Gimp 2.10.34 / (k)ubuntu 20.04 - synaptic.

That is a fair point about the flatpak Gimp 2.10.34 It will not use a regular deb installation, it uses a flatpak version and the install directions are on the G'mic web page.

----------
The Gimp version you use is up-to-you but there is a good regular installation for ubuntu 20.04 from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntuhandbook1/ ... buntu/gimp

Thanks for your answers.
My equipment : ubuntu 20.04 64 bit
Gimp and g'mic are installed with official flatpak from official website, g'mic and gimp.
I try your advice very soon.
Thanks a lot !

I check for qt5 and I have it installed.
but then, I run gimp from a terminal, I have an error message for GEGL

GEGL version too old!
GIMP requires GEGL version 0.4.22 or later.
Installed GEGL version is 0.4.18.
Somehow you or your software packager managed
to install GIMP with an older GEGL version.
Please upgrade to GEGL version 0.4.22 or later.

I don't understand that because, according to me, the installation is clean. (but my computer level is as good as my English, so...)
I'm going to update GEGL.

Another problem is that I don't find, in my browser, the right folder to put gimp_gmic_qt in. I can see this folder through gimp preference menu but not in my browser.

@MisterJei You posted two instances, and it is up to you to sort some things out.

Using a flatpak installation and I have just done a clean install, you need to install a flatpak gimp_gmic_qt not a zip or a debian package. There is one snag, two versions to choose from and the 2-40 version works here.

If you run a flatpak list it should show what you have.

This means you also have a regular Gimp 2.10 installed For Ubuntu 20.04 the default version is Gimp 2.10.18 which uses the old GEGL version. Gimp 2.10.34 requires that updated version. If you install that PPA I referenced and update the Gimp / GEGL / babl packages and install the gimp-python package everything matches, you will have an easier time than the flatpak.

This is a regular Gimp 2.10.34 using that PPA and gimp_gmic_qt from a zip file. Version 3.3.0 - I still have updated it. Not much in the way of messages running from a terminal.

@rich2005 Thanks for your answer. Both gimp and g'mic are installed with flatpak provides by the websites.
After GEGL update, G'mic finally appears in the filter menu... but still doesn't working with an error message : the plugin stopped abruptly
"Le greffon s’est arrêté brutalement : « gmic_gimp_qt »
(/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins/gmic_gimp_qt)
Le greffon a peut-être endommagé l’état interne de GIMP. Vous devriez enregistrer vos images et redémarrer GIMP pour être certain de sa stabilité."
(The plugin may have damaged the internal state of GIMP. You should save your images and restart GIMP to be sure of its stability)

Finally, I find a way for Gimp from PPA. I create a directory with gimp qt inside and past the path in preference, plugin directory from gimp.
I keep searching for gimp flatpak.
Thanks again !

Edit: Did you put gmic_gimp_qt in there ? If you did, delete it. It stops the flatpak version working.

Oh dear... you have two Gimp installations mixed up. Very easy to do with the way Gimp installs.
This not a new feature. When a new Gimp first runs it creates a Gimp User profile in your home partition.

For a flatpak that is ~/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP/config/GIMP/2.10/
For a regular Gimp it is ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/

If there is an existing Gimp User profile from an older version (Gimp 2.8 -> Gimp 2.10 or regular -> flatpak) then any resources in the profile are transferred to the new User profile. Your ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins gimp_gmic_qt plugin is copied to the .var folder and of course does not work. You need the flatpak version only, which install in the flatpak system folders.

You can go back and make a new empty flatpak Gimp.
(1) Rename ~/.config/GIMP/2.10 to ~/.config/GIMP/2.10-backup
(2) Delete the whole ~/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP folder
(3) Run the flatpak gimp to make a new default ~/.var/app/org.gimp.GIMP
(4) Rename ~/.config/GIMP/2.10-backup to ~/.config/GIMP/2.10

This is the flatpak plugins folder - it is empty - no plugins in it so far. Also the flatpak Gimp and the flatpak gimp_gmic_qt
