GIMP Version: 2.8.2
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 7 - 32 bit
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
G-mic

I have Gimp 2.8 on my teacher machine. Yesterday, I installed g-mic on to it and had no problem with it as I am a power user on this machine. However, When I install it on the student machines, I can see the filter when I am logged in, but not when a student is. I've tried installing it to the public folder. Tried using edit-preferences-folders and redirecting, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Here is the youtube tutorial I am using as the basis for the activity.

It only uses g-mic for the first 35 seconds. If I could accomplish this without g-mic, that is another option.
Thanks

There should be a solution for that. Something with Admin permissions, I guess.
But if it's a time-sensitive matter, as a temporary workaround, you can install portable GIMP 2.8 into public folder on your master-PC and copy there all 3rd party scripts and plugins (including gmic) you want your students to work with.
Another option is to use online GMIC.

Thanks, I've referred the problem to my tech dept. They played with it for about an hour with no luck. I didn't know about the gmic online. That will work for the time being. Still taking suggestions though.

Are these network installs or local?
Have you tried putting GMIC in,
~\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

rather than,
~[user]\.gimp-2.x\plug-ins

They were local installs. Thought about that folder, would I copy the exe and dll's into that folder. No school today, so will have to wait until Monday.

Don't copy them, move them. Both plugin folders are pretty much the same.
When Gimp loads it will look for, GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins
and then, [user]\.gimp-2.x\plug-ins

I believe the problem is when your logged in your using, [YOUR-user]\.gimp-2.x\plug-ins folder.
When the student is logged in Gimp doesn't see [YOUR-user] it loads [Student-User] folder.
If you put the plugin at, GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins, it will be available for all users.
