- Windows 7, 64bits, sourceforge installed gimp 2.8.4

Hello !
Well, I've read the g'mic readme & the g'mic wiki faq yet It's not crystal clear as the zip file comes with several unmentioned files and folders. Can someone point out the paths for each of those files and folders seen in this screenshot ?

Ok, Solved, Comodo's behavior blocker (security software) doesn't like g'mic, it prevented him to show up in filters tab. I had to move g'mic exe from unrecognized to trusted files, to define a behavior blocker exception for the whole gimp folder and to define it as allowed application in HIPS rules. Phew...

Note:
I submitted gimp_g'mic.exe to comodo database for file analysis, hoping to prevent future troubles among comodo users.

This comes up every now and again on another forum

edit .. oh oh it changed, I see what you mean

As a linux user I would say,
use the gmic_gimp-2.8 folder contents

_gmic/<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<this a folder containing curl.exe
gmic_gimp.exe
libfftw3-3.dll
pthreadGC2-w64.dll

copy all the files and the folder _gmic to your
.gimp-2.8\plug-ins folder.

The additional filters?? I think in windows they go in your Application Data folder.

Also, once you've done this once, most of the dlls never change and, except recently as I recall, only the gmic.exe plugin is usually needed. :)

I've put these files and folders:
_gmic
gmic_gimp.exe
libfftw3-3.dll
pthreadGC2-w64.dll
into C:\Users\anarkhya\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins

g'mic is still invisible.

..and that's not surprising I guess, I'm getting again to the point where g'mic wiki faq as well as readme are disappointing, because nothing is said about where to put "g'mic-filtres" and "script-fu" folders..

I also use win7 x64 and I don't see the G'MIC option on the menu until I have opened an image (or created a blank one).

Normally you don't need to do anything with filter files, but they should be in:

C:\Users\anarkhya\AppData\Roaming\

I think getting G'MIC working will be worth the effort!

*edit*
I see it's the same for linux, the G'MIC option is greyed out until I have an image open.

Go to your plugins drop menu and scroll all the way to the bottom Anarkhya. I still remember many years ago when I first started using G'MIC that I couldn't find G'MIC either until I scrolled all the way to the bottom of the plugins screen; it's there if you have the plugin located in your user>Gimp>plugins directory. :)

For Windows try putting your GMIC in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Gimp-2.8\bin

gmic.exe goes in there and the rest stay in the folder and placed there too

Just means you are probably using a 64-bit OS which means you will need to use 64-bit G'MIC instead of 32-bit. :)

I was afraid to update the GMIC, simply because I had no idea how to do it correctly.
thanks to this topic I took my doubts and I already have running version 1.5.4.0

Anarkhya by topic and by Molly video tutorial, thanks!

To all who helped in this topic, thanks!
:tyspin

Edited
Doubt
For leveling (Up) the folder script-fu, if not used?
In the video (and I followed the steps in the video), this folder is not installed.

Still having problems, (M$ should be shot for making things so complicated)
I recall this has come up before as well and got a result by putting the gmic filter into the global plugins folder.

C:\Program Files\Gimp 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

Gimp now comes with both 32 & 64 bit in the installation package and unless you do some sort of bespoke install it uses Program Files not Program Files(x86)

I don't have a 64 bit installation so some screen shots in a Win7 32 bit but the principles are the same.

First remove any files previously copied to your local plug-ins folder. Then copy the files & folder to the above location. You can always find these files in the future by sorting-by-date

Those extra filter files. If you get gmic working then the easiest way is just to do an internet update.
But, for the record. You have to go into windows explorer and enable some settings so you can find the AppData\Roaming folder. Copy to there.

That works here, otherwise baffled.

Well, all this means that maybe a windows installer for the 64bits version of the plug-in could be a nice thing to have.
Anyone motivated ? The .iss configuration file already exists for the 32 bits version by the way : http://gmic.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ ... ision=1.10

I actually have gmic in my user's gimp profile since I don't like putting anything in the GIMP folder if I can help it. If you do put stuff in the gimp folder, you will have to do so as administrator as I remember since, in Win7, program files is a protected directory. Not sure why you are having all of these problems anarkhya. Again, all the needed dlls and the plugin itsel along with the _gmic directory which contains curl.exe is in my personal user>gimp>plugin directory. :)

I think it is the actual installing of GMIC that people are having the problems with. Once those dll's are in place, isn't it just a matter of replacing the gmic.exe in plug-ins each time there is an upgrade.

Bonjour,

extract the .zip file and read the manual :

Look for duplicate DLLs between Gimp 2 and Gimp user folders for a possible conflict. If you find any duplicates rename one of them to *.dll.old, restart Gimp and see what happens.

You could use that duplicate script of Keven's, it works great if you have it
