Box Fitting effect

Hello there,
I followed a suggestion of Rod, and wrote and added a new G'MIC filter 'Artistic / Box fitting' to render images like in this page : http://www.complexification.net/gallery ... ittingImg/
It looks like this :

Just refresh your filters and it should appear. Be aware that this filter is quite computationally expensive, so maybe disabling the preview and using a small image may help to bear it ! (it is faster to run than 'Circlism' anyway

).
If you have any cool examples of rendering to show, please post them here, I'm very interested by what you can get !
I have some possible improvements in mind, but not too much time right now. Maybe I'll update the filter someday.

That's the Hockney effect, I posted an example of that last year. Having it asa filter makes it a lot easier.

It is similar but not the same.

If you look close GMS you will notice the squares do not overlap each other as the "Hockney Effect" does.
In the Boxfitter effect the squares are forced to stop growing when they reach another squares border.This is the same effect as Richard Rosenmans Boxfitter filter.

Hi
When i tried to update the filters in Gmic,it gave me an error,both in Gimp2.6 and 2.8

i even tried to update plugins on Forge,and it also gave me a error message

Help?

Just for fun a quick compare of G'MIC Box fitting & Richard Rosenmans Boxfitter (Max size 10 on both).
They both look great!

The option different.
G'MIC Box fitting
Minimal size, Maximal size, Initial density & Transparency

Richard Rosenmans Boxfitter
Boxes (total), Max size, Col var, Color or sample color

Are all new filters included as default in new versions of G'MIC? I'm not on the net so I cannot refresh.

No, it would imply I update the binaries of the plug-in each time I add a new filter.

I didn't think you updated with every filter but when you do update to a new version do you add these filters. In hindsight it's obvious you do and it was a silly question. :oops:

Of course, when I release a new version, all the filters developed between the new version and the previous stable are included by default in the new version.

Update your G'MIC plug-in to 1.5.6.0 You are currently using 1.5.3.0.

Forge? You mean Filter Forge?
