I installed this latest version, 1.7.5.1 (64-bit) plug-in a week ago and since that GMIC doesn't show up under my filters.
I then opened Gimp with terminal and this is the error I received.
/home/molly/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/gmic_gimp: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have allowed the permissions.
Anyone have a clue what this error is? thanks in advance

That was the beta Molly; David just released 1.5.7.1 earlier today. See my post at link below; if you scroll down a little, I also posted the dlls needed for samj's compiler script. :)

What do I do with all those dll's?

I downloaded the new one for Linux (64 bit) and it still doesn't work, it threw all kinds of errors in my terminal. they were in red. I took it out. I don't know what is going on. I don't know how to put in all those dll's in the one Lyle posted.

My version is for Windows and not Linux Molly. Also, it looks like David's posted a 64-bit version for Windows GIMP and that actually should be the version folks use instead of the compile here so I'm going to remove the attachments shortly. Link to the official site for downloads (all flavors) below. :)

I removed the GMIC I installed yesterday from the GMIC site
I installed the one for 64 bit that showed the most downloads. I checked to make sure the permissions are ticked.
Below are screen shots of where it is installed and the actual one I downloaded and the error from terminal
.

Ha. I see, you have a more recent version of libpng than I have.
Probably, this could help you (you will be asked to enter your admin passwd) :

cd /usr/lib64 && sudo ln -s libpng.so libpng12.so.0

Let me know if that solves your problem.

I copied this as root, and this is what I got. GMIC doesn't show up in Gimp

[molly@localhost ~]$ su -
Password:
[root@localhost ~]# cd /usr/lib64 && sudo ln -s libpng.so libpng12.so.0
[root@localhost lib64]#

The last line says nothing ??
Very strange, it should display the dependencies of the 'gmic_gimp' binary, and the explicit paths of these dependencies.
You should check you have installed the binary correctly.

What about a

ls -l ~/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins/gmic_gimp

?

ha ok, so the previous attempt to link version 12 of the libpng to your existing version 15 is not useful.
So, probably you should remove this hack :

sudo rm /usr/lib64/libpng12.so.0

And you need to install the libpng12 library, if possible. Don't know how to do that on your system.
Another possibility is to compile the plug-in binary by yourself (which is quite easy to do, depending on the system you are working on).

David how do I remove that? sudo rm /usr/lib64/libpng12.so.0 I went to terminal then to root, then typed in remove sudo rm /usr/lib64/libpng12.so.0 . It says command not found. I also don't know how to compile. I was told often enough but it slips from my head every time.
I use Fedora19 (64bit)
