After this recent post from Samj,
I've been thinking about a funny challenge that could be nice to propose (that is my first one, so please be indulgent!).

The rules could be : one must start from a blank image (let say with black or white background), and one is allowed to use G'MIC filters only, to create some artistic result. Of course, one can generate several layers and blend them if necessary (even with the GIMP layer menu, as it could be done the same way with G'MIC).

So, here is what Samj proposed in her recent post :



What about the idea ?

Here is my first try : I've started with 'Rendering / Ball', then 'Pack Sprites'. After that, some 'Rodilius', 'Light rays', 'Seamless turbulence' and tons of other filters have been applied, and the result is :

I've been messing around for about an hour and came up with this, and have got no idea how I got to it. There does seem to be a fair few faces in there though.

I had a fun 30 min with Gmic
Nice idea this 'from scratch'. ( I kept an history of filter used on mine. )

String of Pearls

Renderend the sphere using the GMIC preset for it, then horizontally tiled (40) it, then ran Pan to Pow and did some additional manipulation to turn the result into a string of pearls (sans the string; my laziness coming through. lol). Used Painting, Local Orientation and Anisotrophic smoothing presets as part of the pearling of the sphere.

Wow very nice entries. We should make an album out of it !
Congratulations ! I'll try to do something better for my second try (did I say that multiple entries are allowed ? )

Here is my second attempt. I used Rendering / Heart as a basis, then lot of things (including Dream smoothing, freaky details, radial blur, and others I don't remember).

Another fun time. Started with sphere, smoothing then went to the 'testing' folder

I know I started with a white canvas and then applied the lava 3 times but after that I forget, the only thing of interest is I started with a canvas of 512px but have ended up with one 720px.

I started off using a half black and half white canvas. Then Kaleidoscope, Color temperature,Sphere and then rotated it 90°, but I don't remember what I did after that. I should have written it down.

Another room ( Frame>Cube ) with a base cloud pattern (rendering>plasma) with some bump on it ( light&shadow>relief light ) and a lot of colors tweak, vignette, noise, and sharpen.
