Today I installed G'MIC in Windows 7, after installing GIMP 2.8.10.

I extracted all the files in G'MIC ZIP into "C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\".

Then, when I opened GIMP for the first time, it said that could not find the "libpng16-16.dll" library. So it could not load G'MIC.

So I went to the "C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\" folder and I renamed "libpng16-16__.dll" to "libpng16-16.dll". Then, after restarting GIMP, G'MIC was loaded successfully.

Greetings.

So you just had to trick it into thinking you changed it, how clever.

Oh thank you thank you thank you thank you.... and thank you a few more times... I've spent months trying to figure this back out... since the installer in the G'mic site didn't work I have been extracting and installing every way you can imaging, uninstalling and reinstalling GIMP and G'mic and just kept failing different ways... put it in the GIMP2 foldrer instead of the .gimp2, then changed that dll name and it works. I'm running Windows 8.1 btw...

Thanks again,
Scott

Yes, when I compiled the 64-bit GIMP plugin, it returned bogus file names for the dlls for whatever reason (I use to just share the plug-in but folks wanted all the files so I did start to save what the compile returned). I'm not sure why the compiler returned these bogus dlls and did spiel that fact at G'MIC's Flickr but David didn't know why and just think of me as a dummy compiler since coder I'm not. The plugin itself works fine, but you will need to use the dlls from previous zipped packages and I apologize for that. I will only return the exec. plugin in future builds since I already got so grief and mud in my eye and I refuse to have that happen again. Until a more knowledgeable compiler can do so for the 64-bit GIMP plugin, that is what I will for now do when David releases new versions of G'MIC. :)
