Just wondering if there was any plans to add Adjustment layers and Clipping Masks to Gimp?

Gimp is an amazing program but really needs non-destructive editing features like these.

Once the internals are fully ported to GEGL, the plan is not to provide hacks like adjustment layers, but to provide complete non-destructive filter trees.

Thanks!

Might be a dumb question but what is a non-destructive filter tree?

It is not a dumb question. I don't know either but there are several explanations in Google. Here is one of them.
non-destructive filtering

There is a good explanation on Peter Sikking's page http://blog.mmiworks.net/2012/01/gimp-f ... ahead.html

From there:
Quote:
1. there are input boxes that load an existing image, or render some vector shapes or text;
2. there are chains of operation boxes that perform things like blur or change opacity of whatever gets fed into them;
3. there are composer boxes that take two inputs and put one over the other, combining them in a certain way (think layer modes: normal, dodge, multiply);
4. there are output boxes that either display the grand result on a screen, or export it to graphics file formats like png or jpeg.

If you are familiar with "node editing" then that is what the GEGL outcome should be.
Say for instance you require a blur.You would grab a blur node and add it to the image.Then adjust the blur settings.
At any time you can now go back and re-edit those settings or remove them completely.
The XCF workspace file would preserve those node settings.
Hence non destructive editing.
