I have many fonts in my Gimp Fonts folder, :bawl most of which I would only use when Gimping. :yes
I was looking for a way to manage them, :puzzled without having to place them in my Windows/System fonts folder.

Would anyone have any suggestions for me? :blind Or better yet... How do you manage your fonts for Gimp? :geekon

Do you have GURM, it might help?

Yes I do have 'GURM' and it works wonders, but just not for fonts. :(

Yup, it's a bit clunky for sure; It needs each font set to be in their own folder and after activating in GURM, a restart for Gimp to recognize them. I'm using Gimp 2.8.4.

@Odinbc,

So what your telling me is that I have to set-up a folder for every font that I have in my Gimp fonts file within 'GURM' ????? :gaah

In your GURM font folder you need to make at least one sub folder. You don't need a folder for each font you can group them by category or project, etc. Gimp sometimes, but not always, needs a restart to activate a set.

i cannot understand why the Gimp-programmers gave us the tag-system for brushes, patterns and gradients but not for fonts...
should be the same thing

isnt it possible to just custom hack Gimp to get it for fonts as well ?

There is a way to do it with GURM, but I'm still trying to figure this out.

Did anyone use the MrQ Font manager? I use the MrQ Brush Manager and I like it very much, more so than Gurm.

If you read this tutorial, it will show you how to install these Managers. There are five of them. Just place the Font Manager into your plug-in folder and change the first two lines as shown.
They all work the same. Maybe your folders for your different fonts instead of Brushes, that is the only difference.

That's a very good solution Molly!
I only tried the font manager so far.
A couple of things I tested, you can load groups of fonts from one sub-folder and an image must be open to use the font managers.

Yes. I didn't bother with the Font Manager cuz I think it would be mind boggling to separate them into different categories. There would be fat, thin, curly, round and so on. The patterns and gradients would also be hard to categorize
I do love the brush Manager though, I wouldn't want to be without it. I tried GURM but don't like it as well. Brush Manager is instant.

I think I might switch to MrQ and give the brush and font manager a try, because I'm not craze about GURM.

I also installed MareroQ's script, brush, pattern, gradient, and font manager update modules.
I have everything working in it except scripts.Scripts load fast anyways.

For some odd reason even with the correct path to gurm.ini the GURM filter couldn't seem to find it.
Must be the change in paths from documents and settings in XP to user in Vista.I even tried double quotes.

Thank you so much for this information! I installed the brush manager and the font manager. Both help so much. Gimp loads much faster now, too! I appreciate the tip very much.
