I upgraded to 2.10.4 from 2.8.22 (Windows 10, 64 bit). I have dozens, perhaps hundreds, of files with text in them that I save as XCF and then PNG for use on the web. I have just discovered that 2.10.4 saves text differently than 2.8.22 in both the appearance of fonts and in the positioning of the text. Attached are two files showing this; they are PNGs saved from the same XCF, one from 2.8.22 and one from 2.10.4. View the files in an image view like Irfanview, switch back and forth, and you can see the differences are substantial.
In several cases, the 2.10.4 PNG text breaks the layout of my presentation. I hope this is a bug but I fear this is a feature of how 2.10 handles text. Redoing all my files is not an option, so I have reverted to 2.8. Many features of 2.10 are quite good, but I think you need to work on backward compatibility more. (Another problem is that zooming in 2.10 does not recenter the image as 2.8 did, which is discussed in another post in GIMP Chat.)
