Post subject:  Text Wrapping Wrong

I am a beginner at this time. Using v. 2.10 on Linux Mint 19.1 with i5 cpu.

I tried this tutorial from YT:
"GIMP Tutorial: Wrap Text Around A Circle"
(I have no connection with this website or content other than as a learner.)

But my text wraps in the wrong way so that the lower line would be upside down to the reader.
The text should wrap as in the first screenshot:

My text:

I have tried using the flip tool without success so far.
Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong and how to correct this would be appreciated.

You need to reverse the stroke of the circle path. You can use Ofnut's "reverse strokes" plugin or flip the path horizontally using the Flip Transform tool.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-p ... p/download

Remember, you're flipping the circle path, not the text.

Thanks for responding. I will try flipping the path.
I have now 3 layers in the document.
If I go to paths, I see two paths:
1. "around a circle" (the text_
2. a path called selection. I assume this is the path I must work with.
I select this path, the circle turns red.
I open flip tool
under transform I choose path, and make sure horizontal is checked.

the circle jumped to the right and left off center. l used ctrl - z to undo that
but it does not seem to be doing anything
I am afraid I don't understand what is going on at this point.

If your circle path is centered in the exact middle of the drawing, when you flip the path (just one click on the circle path layer - double arrow should be <--->), it should just reverse the stroke direction. The path itself should not even change locations.

You could also try redrawing the circle selection and saving it to a path, to try again. That didn't work for me.

Gimp 2.10.20
A 45 second video/animation that might help. https://i.imgur.com/2ygIsA2.mp4 I put a little tick in the circle to show the flip (not to be used in real world) Remember one click is all that is needed with the flip tool.

your advice worked perfectly.
Thanks a lot.

What I just found out reviewing this is, that if I activate the flip tool and go into the circle and click, the circle changes position. So I undo that action, the click exactly on the circle. Then the circle stays put. I can then go to "text along path" and it works.

a separate issue came up though. I had made the text to wrap a round a circle filled with background color, but
my finished jpeg shows the entire background color filling a square with the text inside. I must have made a mistake with the layers.

here's what I made in GIMP:

The only images that qualify for transparency are PNGs. JPG files will fill with a background color. Try exporting the file as a PNG and make sure "Keep background color" is unchecked.
