I actually grabbed your image and used Change Image on it to obtain the gradient.

There is a filter 'Deformation / Ripple' in G'MIC that looks exactly the same, when parameters are finely tuned :)

in fact it was my first choice, but it didnt give me the exact effect i was looking for

Nice effect, Esper! Looks like brushed metal.
I'm gonna play around with this technique and see if i can make
various hq brushed metal textures for my 3D projects.
Edit. Just dawned on me - I can use these textures to imitate anisotropic
light scattering on distant objects where i don't need great amount of detail
instead of using expensive anisotropic shader in Blender! Cool!

@Rod Cool idea to use pixel spread!
Could be useful for my projects too.

Esper that looks terrific! It has a real metallic look to it :bigthup

Note: After using Noise>Spread i had to trim the edges a wee bit as they were roughed up.As you can see in the spread interface preview. :)
