Things happen :) "System language" is fine.

Did you reboot Windows (after all this is Windows :))?

This woke me up out of a sound sleep this morning. Got up and tested the idea and it worked. Made the text type backward.

The horizontal letter spacing in the Text Tool dialog set to a fairly high negative value makes the text type backward. Set it back to zero or whatever other spacing you want.

Interestingly, resetting the Text Tool back to default values did not change the horizontal letter spacing back to zero (default value).

Am I reading this right? You changed the letter-spacing to a negative value and reset the text tool but the letter-spacing stayed at the negative value? If that's true it would be worth a bug report search.

Kudos O for sleuthing this one out. This one should be posted at Buzilla too.

Also, what a cool way to type backward words. lol

I'm happy it worked for you. It was a very interesting question. Sometimes a click of the mouse in a random place can wreak all sorts of havoc. :puzzled

@ Odin & Lyle: I tried reporting a bug at Bugzilla once and had such a negative experience with the staff that I swore I'd never try that again.

My experience has been more positive. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=720492

@Leigh, with regard to the resetting problem (and BTW, nice sleuthing O), this should have been fixed back in GIMP 2.8.4 (correction: 2.8.10) . Please check whether you are using a more recent version and determine whether the above bug report needs to be re-opened.

EDIT: I've tested on 2.8.14 and the letter spacing properly resets to "0.0".

I'm using 2.8.6 and it doesn't reset.

My mistake. The reset bug wasn't fixed until the 2.8.10 release. (At the time I reported the bug, the latest release was 2.8.8, but I was still using 2.8.2)

Reported 8 bugs, 6 were fixed.

Maybe so Saul, but, for a myriad of reasons, I'm sticking w/ 2.8.10. Way too many gotchas with 2.8.12/2.8.14 for me to take the gamble. :)

Interesting find Oregonian.
I did play with these text setting, but did not go as far with them. I also thought that this would be very obviously noticeable, if the text setting were set dramatically either way.
That's why I did think this to be an issue.
Nice work on this one everyone. :bigthup
You get a Image Oregonian.

even though it's a bug, it's a great piece of information to know about, so if it ever happens we will know where to look to rectify it!

What would you use backward text for?
