Just thought I would add a link here in case anyone who is interested hasn't heard. The Gimp plugin registry are looking for plugin writers to do lots of things that are way beyond anything I know. Here's the link http://www.gimpusers.com/news/00496-gim ... ntegration

On another note. I thought I would read the whole letter on the above topic but got this warning from FireFox.

It all seems a bit strange as I would always trust almost anything Gimp related. Not sure if everyone is getting this message.

I use FireFox and I just went to the "gimp registry" without any issues.

Were you using the "Read the full letter" link from the bottom of the post at gimpusers.com?

Just use the http protocol instead of https (as long as you aren't uploading information, http should be safe).

http://registry.gimp.org/node/31740

There is also a fairly involved discussion taking place on the gimp-dev mailing list:

Cheers, saulgoode. I've got an add-on called "HTTPS Everywhere" installed in FireFox, I guess it could be that that's throwing up the warning as I don't usually have any problems when connecting direct to the registry.
On the face of it the idea about an automatic way to install plugins sounds like a good idea, but then I guess that most people who have more than a casual interest in Gimp find out how to do that kind of manual installation fairly early on. Still, it's good that these folks want to make the registry easier to use for all users.

I'm not on the gimp-developer-list but I do have an idea that might be of interest.
Ubuntu uses Django for their Apps Directory.
The Ubuntu app directory code might be worth a look as a starting framework.

I got the warning as well. It may be something about the heartbleed thing. The timing is right. Or it could just be that the certificate expired and until their host is patched for heartbleed there's no reason to renew.

Cheers for the info on the heartbleed bug. I just had a quick search around and it sounds like quite a serious problem. The was only one site I had a real concern about but apparently they aren't affected, must be using a different kind of server.

Yr Welcome. So far the only ones prompting the warning are insignificant ones, and I use unique passwords across the board, but the trick is if you have a group of common passwords, an insignificant site becomes significant because they have enough info to hack you on a significant site.
