I might be the only person that didn't know this but as Graechan pointed out to me, Gimp-2.8 (64-bit) should go in your Programs, not the (x86) folder.

If you are still using Gimp-2.8(x32) you need to place it in the(x86) folder.

The gimp.org installer contains all the files for either a 64 bit or 32 bit windows installation.

The installer polls the OS and automatically installs the correct version to 'Program Files' It will not install a 64 bit installation to 'Program Files(x86)' unless you do something to force it there.

It is possible to add a 32 bit switch to the installer "/32" this will force a 32 bit installation to the correct location 'Program Files(x86)' in a 64 bit Windows.

You are correct Rich, I did force the installation to go into (86) using Partha's version which the default was Programs right in the installation.

What you don't know about installing GIMP on Windows is a whole lot less than what I don't know about installing GIMP on Windows.

('Tis a strange choice of naming for the 32-bit folders, as the 64-bit processor architecture is still x86.)

I suppose that what you are saying is only relevant to processors 64-bits, which can install 32-bits packages and 64-bits packages.
I have a 32-bits PC and I only have 'Program Files' and my Gimp 32-bits is under 'Program Files'.
I don't even have a folder 'Program Files (x86)'

Same with my 32-bit machine.
My Gimp is installed @ C:\Program Files\Gimp-2.8; and there isn't a C:\Program Files\x86, folder on my computer either.

Your failure is trying to make sense of the process Molly. If you just accept things like me (like when they changed c:\Documents and Settings to c:\users and of course the 64-bit program files vs. the 32-bit program files (x86) directories), then all is bliss. lolol

It's like similar to what Thomas Aquinas attributed to faith. If you accept your beliefs by faith, then you don't have to explain anything. lolol

Molly when you originally told me that you had a gimp in 'program files' and another in 'program files (x86)' I new things were all wrong as also you can't have a 64bit gimp in 'program files' and a 32bit gimp in 'program files (x86) also ,another point is you should not have any portables in either of 'program files' or 'program files (x86)' , Windows is a funny Fella

 Graechan, I now have one Gimp in Windoze. It is Gimp-2.8.10 (64-bit). It came from Partha's place. It is in Program Files now. I deleted the portable gimp, I don't need it.
I also have Gimp-2.8.10 in Linux but I don't expect I will have any problems with it cuz it is in Linux... :teeth
I don't call Windows funny, more like irritating. :pengy

Molly the gimp you showed me looked like a 32bit version as it didn't have a 32 folder

Graechan, what is this 32 folder you are speaking of? I deleted the gimp I downloaded and I downloaded the one down farther on Parthas list. This one has a lot more files in it but I don't see anything about a 32 folder.

the 32 folder contains another bin folder that allows gimps 64bit install to run 32bit plugins e.g mathmap
below↓ is what a full 64bit install looks like

Can you point me to a full one then please Graechan, I am getting so frustrated, my head and shoulders feel like they are on fire. I have never had any problems with running any scripts and I have had the 64 bit for 3 years.
