I've been working with gimp for about 5 years, on and off and am by no means a pro. Anyway, just recently my words are coming out backwards... not the letters, mind you, the words... siht ekil tsuj....? no idea why, I've clicked every button I can think of. Please help? Thanks so much. :tyspin

Can you post a screenshot of your Gimp, when this occurs?
Or some kind of example of your text dialog, showing us a before and after of what you're describing?

This is what it looks like, just as I type it out.

Is there a language that looks like this?

There must be a setting, about mirror image or backwards or starting from the right.

:hehe I'm not aware of any language or font that would produce these results on their own.

There may be a way for others to try and recreate this, that could lead to solving this issue for you.
I've never seen this happen unintentionally. I'm also not sure if there is some text setting that can intentionally cause this effect.

Edit...

I was unable to reproduce this effect using the "normal" text tool options that Gimp provides.

Yes, it looks like it was flipped horizontally.

I did nothing to cause this, intentionally. As I previously stated, I have tried every button I can think of... to no avail. Thank you.

I looked at everything I could think of looking at, even did a Google search for it but nothing helpful came up.

One other thing to try: Click the Text Tool and at the bottom of the dialog click the reset button.

In the Tool Options dialog for the Text Tool, checked the box labeled "Use editor". A window will appear (which is GIMP's old style text editor) and in that window make sure that the LTR button is pressed (not the RTL).

Leigh have you tried running a logo script to see what happens, go to File/Create/Logos

Is the backwards text happening in any other apps? Like searches, word processors, etc.

Have you tried saving your backward text stuff and reopening to see if it changed directions after saving?

I have used the editor, changing the direction, either way,it stays. Logos work fine, no problem there. I have not, as yet, saved and reopened as i didnt see the point in that.. however, I will try it.

Well, doggone, Leigh, it would be nice if we could find a fix for your problem. I found a link to a similar phenomenon but it was in Linux. :gaah
