...dramatically sped up GIMP for me (like nearly 5 to 6 times); especially mathmap. Why didn't someone here tell me about this?

GEGL_USE_OPENCL {set this Windows environmental variable to yes).

Maybe because it's still not fully tested?

Maybe so ofnuts, and I did run across your post at that other forum, but I can tell you; this works for the latest version of GIMP (64-bit anyway) in my Win 8.1 OS. The only thing I really didn't see speed up in is G'MIC and PSPI plugins. Still, it speed up Mathmap and Resynthesizer quite well (but I would only say Resynthesizer is around 3 times faster not 6 times). :)

Something I just checked. I'm running Resynthesizer, normally a huge CPU intensive operation. I decided to see how the new setting affects GIMP and I'm amazed. GIMP is using 0% CPU cycles and Resynthesizer is only using 14% (trust me; it went to 50% before I enabled this setting). Pretty stoked I am. So much faster, but, they can, I believe, make it even faster then this so I'm looking forward to 2.10x release to see how fast they can get GPU acceleration. I only can tell you that PS GPU filters are like near instantaneous. It would be cool to see Resynthesizer run instantaneously; just my dream. :)

I don't see it in my environment variables?
do I just manually add it and set it to "yes"?
