I was thinking of moving all my Gimp User folders and data to another drive.
When I last installed Gimp, I did so on my D drive, which is the faster of my 2 internal drives. The user folders and such, were installed during the Gimp installation to my C drive. There isn't much space on my C drive and it is slower then my D drive.
I was thinking of moving all the user data and folders to my D drive.

Here are my questions:

Is this possible?
What would I need to do to accomplish this?
Is this worth the hassle?
Should I just leave things as is?
Has anyone done this successfully?

You can keep your current Gimp directory and just move your bulky data (patterns, fonts, brushes) to another drive/directory and add this directory to Gimp via Edit>Preferences>Folders.

Otherwise you set the environment variable GIMP2_DIRECTORY to whatever directory will be the replacement for .gimp-2.8.

I really wanted to move the entire users folder, but I guess I can move the folders you suggest to lighten up the Gimp user folder.

How do I go about changing the GIMP2_DIRECTORY?

1) not need to take risks, you can first add the directory and keep the old one, and then move things to the new directory and leave the old one empty.

2) Control Panel> System>Advanced>Environment variables. You can check it is set properly by starting a command prompt and entering "set GIMP2_DIRECTORY". This will display the value of the environment variable.

Thanks Ofnuts and Odinbc. :bigthup
I'll give it a good. Hopefully I'll do it correctly, then I'll have the Gimp users folder where I want it.
