edit:

Just checked GIMP.org and don't see any update from their site. :)

It seems to be a completely new 2.8.16 installation.
I'm not sure I want to do that, without any confirmation of this update from Gimp.org.

Thanks for the extra link, Tom.

I agree with you Wallace; don't understand why GIMP didn't just release 2.8.18; never heard of a release 2 option. lol

GIMP 2.8.16 is working fine with me; I'll wait until I first see a date change of the file from GIMP.org and also reviews from the guinea pigs that actually install it first. lol

:)

I thought the recent 2.8.16 build was to fix the installer issue, to comply with Microsoft's new security certificates.

I'll just have to wait until Fedora comes up with the update in the repositories.

I like the 2.8.16 that I have.

Thanks for the info, Lyle!

OK; should have went to GIMP.org news click to begin with. Apparently the way Edge Browser saves the GIMP program causes a checksum discrepancy which the new build fixes. Won't effect those that already have installed 2.8.16. :)

I wouldn't trust any build other than one linked from GIMP.org, Wallace. That said, below's more info. :)

Here's the announcement about what the problem was:
http://www.gimp.org/news/2016/03/17/cor ... -warnings/

The new installer has been signed with a newly-acquired certificate so shouldn't trigger Windows Edge to complain.

I recommend following the GIMP G+ feed: https://plus.google.com/+gimp

You mean the bl**dy browser cannot download a file and keep it intact? Hard to believe, even from a Microsoft product...

PS: the Gimp repositiory has three different version of the 2.8.16 Windows installer, dated Nov 22, Feb 20, and March 26.

More likely the checksum error was with the original installer in the first place ofnuts. When the browser tries to validate the program, it finds a mismatch and throws flags. :)

Ah; this time I didn't check the actually released installers. lolol

Thank Rich. Very strange behavior going on; the paranoid person in me wants to know why. :)
