Yes Sallyanne. When I first started to learn about masks, I used Molly's tutorial. It is a very good one for beginners. I have problems when the whole image I am doing is complicated and masks are needed. I do recommend Molly's tutorial to all starting out. Tin Tran also has one which is slightly different but has same result. Here are both:
