I currently have it turned off
I did out of curiosity, follow this experiment from this link
colour-manange-test
and found the standard profile from his package was best for me.
However in the end I turned off colour management again and the photos he supplied viewed the same to my eyes, so I guess my monitors display just matched his standard sRGB profile

I am using GIMP-2.9.5-cce-64bit. It seems to work flawlessly as does GIMP-2.9.5-std-64bit on the W10 Pro box. I haven't tried it out on any of the Linux machines... yet. I need to calibrate my monitor and back the *.cc profiles up b4 I screw everything up.
