Is there any way(s) in GIMP to make text follow a curve (in virtual 3-D space)? It would be useful for many things..
I.e. it would have to be able to turn the text so that it appears squashed at certain points where the curve line becomes more pronounced..

Something like this: https://forum.unity.com/attachments/tex ... pg.128206/

Or is it possible to do this already using transform tools and the like (trying to figure it out- head hurts lol)

Cheers.

Filters>Map>Map object and map to a cylinder or sphere.

Plenty of options, plenty if occasions to get it wrong :)

For the sort-of-helicoidal shape above I gave a slant to the text before the mapping.

Thanks for that. Hadn't though of Map Object, yes that works - but what I really wanted - didn't really convey this in my opening message - was something that followed the contours of a shape less regular than a circle or sphere, so for instance a curved building with writing on it or even a randomly contoured cliff-face. There would have to be some kind of 3d guide I'm guessing, somewhat akin to my badly designed and executed example here.. (hopefully it's more clear as to what I mean though) -

For that you need a 3D program (Blender or else), even if the curved building can likely be simulated using the adequate part of a cylinder.

Right, I tried Blender once but quickly got rid of it as it sent me into a catatonic state of bewilderment :) - saying that though I might fire it up again to have a look at that kind of option, I suppose for now I'll try doing the Map Object in conjunction with some skewing and perspective deforming etc. to get something close to want I want. thanks again ofnuts!
