If one is to believe this...perhaps the mystery of installing .py on mac OS is solved by this and related articles...I've yet to check it out but will tomorrow after I have had some sleep...perhaps another mac user might like to try these tips....

I have to run off to work right now, but so far I have not had any trouble installing plug-ins on my Snow Leopard. I just drag and drop the file into my username/library/application support/gimp/plugins(.py) or scripts(.scm) folder. But I will check out the article tonight, looks interesting. One thing is, I do not even remember how/when I installed python or where I got my version from.

Thanks for researching and posting this akky. I changed your subject line to include Mac OS so other mac users can find it easier.

An added note here:
Python plug-ins (.py extension) go into the plug-ins folder.
Scripts (.scm extension) go into the scripts folder.

When you install a .py one into the plug-ins folder, refreshing scripts doesn't work. You need to close and re-open GIMP.

As Cecilia said, in Linux, and I do not know if this is true for Mac, the file needs to be given permission to execute by right-clicking the file, Properties > Permissions and the box checked for allowing it to execute.

right Akky, I have never had to do permissions, but I"m the admin so maybe I always have permission, lol. I do remember seeing some menu where the admin can give read and write permission for the whole computer, though. All I have ever done is drop the .py programs into the plug-ins folder.

I think it depends on the users machine it was either compiled on or written on.

ok some people need to understand that Mac things dont necessarily work the same as Windows or Linux things...and we dont necessarily have the same way of doing things for the same result.....
