I use GIMP mostly for web graphics but I like to attempt to repair and enhance old photos too. Sometimes I play around with the scripts for fun.

I think if I had a nice graphics tablet, I could be more creative.

So, what do you use GIMP to do?

Anyone have a recommendation on good graphics tablets?

I use GIMP cuz it has all the features that photoshop has and it is free. I also feel more comfortable using it because of all the super help that is available.
As far as a tablet, I recommend Wacom Bamboo Fun CTE-650 for a reasonably priced one.....

I have Linux and Gimp is available for Linux.

I like to use Gimp to create nice graphics. As a volunteer for the Arts and Entertainment Enhancement organization in my home town, I create posters and flyers for them.

I like the Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet. Fedora has the Wacom drivers.

I use Gimp for making posters and fixing up photos. I got interested in graphix with microsoft's pictureIt, as it was on my computer and I admired other posters I saw online. One youngster, who was in high school, did lots of icons, and told me that she used Gimp. So I googled it, downloaded it, and found the tutorials as a great way to learn how to use it. I would find a cool tutorial, then think of a poster to make using the effects in the tutorial. I had thought of getting photoshop but could never justify the cost just for a hobby. For that much money, I would rather get a macbook, or an iphone 4.

This is a little off topic but on forums I'm usually surrounded by youngsters. Just curious, am I surrounded by them here too? For the record I'm 54.

I use GIMP because it is a nice FREE alternative to Adobe, and runs well with all the other Open Source Image wares such as, InkScape, Scribus, Gnumeric,DeepPaint,Hugin,Kompozer, and Open Office Draw.

i am 47 =)

The reason I started using Gimp was because I saw a video about the new photoshop cs5 'content aware fill' that everyone was raving about and then on youtube one about the Gimp's resynthesize tool that did exactly the same thing which they had devised ages ago.
Gimp being FREE!! and yet still clearly being more forward thinking than adobe just made me want to change. I have not missed photoshop in the slightest. Also articles that I've read about freeware not being as good (you get what you pay for, blah, blah,) make me angry and want to prove them wrong.
I just use Gimp for graphics.
It give me the freedom to use Ubuntu which is a beautiful and clever OS, rather than windows which isn't.

I use GIMP for personal enjoyment, especially animations. I like sharing what I've learned with others. For the record, I'm 43. Molly, 2-ton, and Oregonian are all in their early 20's!
